Volkswagen UP Owners Club > News

The up! competes in the city car class, a rival to such vehicles as the Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1, Peugeot 107, Fiat 500 and Ford Ka. This sector accounts for around one in every 10 cars purchased in the UK – a figure which is set to rise over the coming years.

It is predicted that the best-selling up! will be the Move up! with the 60 PS engine, and this will be responsible for just under half of sales volumes. When it is available in the second half of 2012, the five-door model will account for 52 per cent of up! sales.

The up! will appeal widely to those who drive in cities. These are likely to be divided between two key groups: young ‘starters’ aged between 17 and 29, for many of whom this will be their first car; and 45 to 70 year old ‘empty nesters’ who are looking for a stylish, reliable, good quality car.
