To put a positive spin on an otherwise sour thread I've got nothing but praise for my dealer. Been doing business with them 10 years now..!

First up! order was through Specialist Cars Dunfermline, order was placed on a car already built and deposit taken.....called the following week to add spare wheel and was told your order was cancelled as requested????

Gobsmacked was an understatement and they advised I could place a new order however they would not refund the deposit as they said I had requested to cancel

Many calls to VW UK and contact with the sales manager and they still refused to refund the deposit

Eventually went through my bank and got the deposit charged back to me through a successful claim

Would not recommend Specialist Cars Volkswagen at all

The second and current order for my up! through another dealer - Dane Chester VWhasn'tbeen too great either especially the communications and updates as well as false build times at point of sale

Looks like for my next vw purchase i'll have to head up to Dundee as quite a few of the members have raved about the service they got there

Deposit...? I placed my (fully loaded) up! order with my dealer WITHOUT a deposit. 3 months later my up! arrived, I took delivery of my new up! and still, no money had exchanged hands. Of course I did do a bank transfer for full payment the next day without any delays.

You were pretty lucky then or the dealer had different rules

I'm sure in the UK when placing an order for a VW you have to put down a minimum deposit otherwise there is nothing to stop you cancelling the order at any stage and the dealer then having to foot the cost of cancelling the order or selling the car on -whichcan be very difficult if it has been ordered to a specific spec

I was prepared to put down a deposit but as the dealer explained to me, he (the dealer) didn't have to give VW a deposit for the order so why did I (the customer). He did admit though that if a customer wanted some weird color such as pink or green then he might need a deposit up front because it would be difficult for him to sell such a car if the customer reneged on the deal. Besides, I signed a binding contract for the vehicle, it was a done deal, with or with a deposit.

Haha weird colour such as pink or green!I saw your comments about green in a different post lol

I suppose it must just be common practice amongst dealers here to take a deposit as a security

Tip Top Service from Whiterose VW in Crosshills.

Not sure if the wrong dash was our mistake or theirs, but doesn't matter as Very happy with the car as it is!

The only improvement would be if we had received the M&M and second remote folding key with the car but as these are sent separately, or not, this is something for VW UK to sort out.

We also wanted to put a deposit down but our dealer (Hadwins, Lindale) said that there was no need.

He said we could sort out the money side of things when it arrives.
