Was just contacted by my VW dealer/service technician today and informed that I need to book my Up! in for a "re-call".When I asked him what it was for,he had to look it up,and told me it was for an ECU update.
I then asked him what this update was meant to improve or change?
He did not know and tried to look that up also while I was on the phone.
No definitive answer was forthcoming.
He said it would take an hour/hour and a half.

Anybody else heard of this? Apologies if there is another similar thread has already been done.
Mine is a Up! 75bhp BMT,manual.

Still enjoying car and at 13,500 miles/ 9 months the engine is loosening up nicely.Becoming smoother. Am hoping with the milder weather mpg will improve. Still tends to hover around the 45mpg mark but I hope I will start to get consistent 50+mpg as it gets warmer.
No other problems, apart from slightly "groaning" rear suspension especially with people or stuff in the boot.

2 items have been mentioned on the forum

1. address a cooling fan cutting in too soon problem
2. making the fuel guage more linear than logarithmic !!

My 40k service is a week on sat, will ask tech guy if he knows

At my service last month they updated the ECU for the cooling fan but did not mention the fuel gauge but did say it would not affect the fuel consumption

not consumption, just the linearity of the guage....on early cars like mine it shows full for 300 miles then plummets to zero over the next 50 or so!
