I mod mine... and this is why.

The car is more fun now its faster, for what I use it for its more fun than a polo or a golf, and still much cheaper to run. I don't buy new cars every couple of years and will have this for a long time, so incremental improvements keep it exciting.

I still socialise with other car enthusiasts regularly and go to a lot of car shows, so having a more expensive, but standard car would be boring.

So yes I have spent a lot of money on my UP, but its different, rare and now fast enough to play with a lot of bigger cars without looking silly. Yes there is a risk something will go wrong, but it's an UP, not a Nissan GTR, so a lot cheaper to fix!

The insurance is still less than a standard Golf R, its arguably more fun to drive, four tyres cost the same as one on an M4, and fuel is a non issue.

Cheap, rare, fun.

Life's too short to overthink it.

I would put money on a rolling race between this up! GTI and a stock Golf GTI I reckon. When you've got a 500kg weight difference, the 30-ish horsepower difference is surely gonna make it close
