Hi,
I wonder if anyone can tell me what the sound is like without the soundpack - is it terrible or ok?!

I was interested in aMove Up! in candy white, and it just so happened that when I went to the dealers they had oneavailable with M&M and spare wheelfrom a cancelled order.Dealer told me that if I placed a factory order it would take around three months, so after some consideration, Iordered the stock car last week. I don't have it yet because they arewaiting to sort out paperwork with the DVLA - dealer had applied to register the car in theoriginal customer's name, and because they couldn't proceed there is now a process togo throughtto deregister the car and register it to me as the first owner. Not sure how long this is likely to take, but am hoping to have the car by the end of the month.

I am just getting a bit wobbly about it because if I had placed a factory order, I would have ordered the sound pack, and stupidly, I did not check the quality of the sound in the car without the sound pack. Now, in all honesty I tend to just listen to the radio in the car, and make fairly short journeys, so I don't need a fancy sound system. But, after reading some of the other posts, I'm wondering if the sound is really terrible without the sound pack?

Also, I read something about 2013 spec - so I take it the spec of the car is changing already? Does that mean if I get the stock car it is going to be devalued by the fact that it's not the most up to date spec? I am wondering if I would be better off placing a factory order with sound pack, alsogetting the 2013 spec and 62 reg in the process, althouth the wait would probably kill me!

Any comments/advice appreciated!

Welcome to the forum Snuggles.

I can't say that I've heard the car without the sound pack as the car I test drove was an up! Black but with the sound pack the stereo isn't earth shattering anyway.

It may be worth taking this car to eliminate a lot of the wait and use the £100 you've saved and get an after market upgrade if you're not satisfied with the factory speakers.

Not exactly sure on 2013 spec but I think they started to put onhill hold control from around build week 22. To be honest the car is that easy and fun to drive I'm not sure you'd need it. Is there much else for 2013?

Hi Manacee and thanks for your reply,
That does sound like a sensible plan re the aftermarket upgrade! Although I guess this would only be straightforward if I was happy to stick to just two speakers.

Re the 2013 spec, I only know what I've read on here (dealer never mentioned it), so I don't know about anything other than the hillhold, and I agree that I don't need it. I'm not sure if anything else is changing, Iam more concernedabout the possibilityof there being a significant difference in valuebetween the 2012 and 2013 spec cars in a couple of years.

Thanks again!

2013 is hillhold and I believe a change of wording on the AC switch. Hardly worth bothering about !!

As to the sound, that is a personal choice, why not go and listen to the demo car at the dealer as everyone will have their own opionion & the only one that matters is yours !!

If you follow the excellent guide from Stainless (or get someone else to) you could add the extra speakers anyway - if the dealer wants to shift the car, maybe he will do it for you.

I didnt order the sound pack, but as DavidW says it is personal taste. The existing 2 speakers are fine for my use. I mainly am the only person in the car.

I am told the sound is not as strong in the back (given it doesnt have any speakers), so if you regularly have passengers, you may wish to get the upgrade. Stainless has done an excellent report on the upgrade process anyway.

I've got the standard sound set up on my car and can't fault it. If you just listen to the radio, or the odd CD, you should be fine with this set up. Indeed, if you are happy with the rest of the car, why wait three months just for the sound pack?Edited by: luckyjimmy

I have the sound pack in mine and I think it is worth the money, if you were to add rear speakers at a later date you would probley spend more than a hundred pound on speakers and cable also take in to account time and effort, not an easy job to do by the looks of it

I also have the speaker pack. As others have said it depends on what you listen to. No idea what the standard setup sounds like but I'm happy with the upgrade.

Thanks all for the replies!
I've just spoken to the dealer and he's been and checked the chassis number for me, and the car actually is a 2013 spec - I think it must have just squeaked in as one of the first.

I thinkthe most sensible thing to do is take the car and if I'm not happy with the sound, look in to upgrading it later. It's only been five days since I paid my deposit and I'm already feeling very impatient, soa three month wait just for a couple of speakersdoesn'tmake sense!

I just hope it doesn't take toomuch longer for the DVLA to sort out the deregistration (not sure how common this sort of situation is). It's frustrating to know that the car is sitting at the dealer's, and I can't have it!

In my opinion, for so little you get so much. You'll kick yourself for not getting it.

take it to an aftermarket specialist, spend say £200 ish and end up with a sound system that imho will be way better than the sound pack

I've ordered it but really only to get the wiring to the back to make switching speakers an easy diy task.

put it this way, I ordered early may...its soon going to be august and i'm still probably 4 weeks from seeing it...the wait is torture!....you struck lucky with a 2013 almost-your spec car...jump at it!!

I ordered the sound pack precisely so all the wiring would be in place if I thought the speakers needed upgrading later on. Ordering the Sunroof added a few weeks to the delivery time anyway so it wasn't an extra delay. I suspect that any upgrade will have to include speakers with better bass response. I'm going to miss the 100w subwoofer I got with the Yellow Peril when I brought it.

I have to agree with PrivateDoc and Frag here, yes my Up has the sound pack, and the sound quality is fine. But I intend to upgrade the speakers at some point anyway.

Generally I always upgrade the speakers in my cars, as the factory fit items have always been fairly weak. Just not in the first month of getting one brand new!!
