I know we're all in the market for small, cheap cars, but i've just seen the new Mazda 6 and have to say they have returned to form with this:

Mazda 6

So many car markers produce a great Mark I, a rubbish Mk II then a much better, but-not-quite-as-good-as-the-original Mk III. The Ford Focus is a good example of that. Can anyone else think of any terrible Mk II's?

Some terrible Mk IV's were the Escort and the Golf.

Anyone old enough to remember when the Morris Marina became the Morris Ital? Oh dear....so bad it was funny!Edited by: AlanG

Does anyone remember the early SEAT Ibizas with "System Porsche" written in large letters down the sides? Obviously, you were supposed to notice the Porsche, rather than System.

Has there been a good version of the Toyota Corolla?

You know nothing, nothing at all. I do remember the ital. It was BL's attempt at a nice car designed by a trendy italian. Even Ital design could do nothing with the Marina.

But surely you are wrong. Easily the worst mark 3 was the cortina. The first was basic and the second a bit too heavy, though both were improved by a lotus engine. The mark 3 was rounded and rather americanised. No anti roll bar on mine and it handled like a jelly on skates. It looked bad and it was bad. The slightly redeeming feature was the electrics were reliable and parts were cheap. The engine was pretty good except when the engine oil went. This car was the first car to get the pinto engine which had dodgy cam shafts.

Mk IV golf was awesome, they ruined the golf every odd iteration (except Mk I obviously). Mk III and Mk V Golfs were woeful.
