A Dutch Up! owner fitted strings on the parcel shelf.

Do you know which string kit was used, only it looks like it needs trimming down a bit.

I'm taking my up! in today for them to check out the power supply to the M&M (as it has switched itself off three times now instead of remaining in stand by mode) so I'll ask the Parts Dept for a price on those three part numbers. My concern is that the 'system' as shown in the pics relies on gravity to return the shelf to the horizontal. What if the shelf gets pushed into the full vertical and the retaining 'clips' each end get engaged. Will those strings be able to 'unclip' the shelf?

I don't believe that the string will be able to defy the laws of physics, so no, it wont.

Oh dear! you've missed my point!!! Nothing to do with the laws of gravity when shelf is clipped into the vertical position!

My point is: Will the cords pull the shelf out of the clipped position? Raising the shelf is not the problem... it's forgetting, after 40 years of self-lowering parcel shelves, to release it from the clips in order to lower it.

Anyway, my VW Parts dept can't help "IM6...." are SEAT parts and although he can get them on the screen, it says BRANDING BARRED ... (he turns his screen round so I can see for myself).

Message? Perhaps it's "VW drivers are too sophistocated to need such trivial aids!" ?

I never said gravity, I said physics. Who has missed who's point again? :)

I still don't see why people get in such a tizzy about remembering to put down a 3 foot long flap of fibreboard and cloth when it's right in front of their faces...

As for the 'Branding barred', I just bought a Seat/Skoda P/N set of side skirts through a VW Dealer at Skoda prices, so I don't know why they would bar any other Seat/Skoda part?

I saw the statement for myself - on the Parts Dept screen. Price was quoted, number of items per pack , but in RED it said Branding Barred. He suggested I try a Dealer at Burgess Hill (gave me their phone number) who ARE able to supply VW and Seat items. Clearly some internal issue.....

VW dealer cant order Seat,Audi,Skoda,Van parts through the normal channels they would get VW car parts through, however they might have one of the other brands in their group of companies or just order them from TPS and sell them to you.

Ref to the parcel shelf - ensure when you fit the "CORRECT" length of string that it opens just to the point of contact of the locking lugs- then it will never lock - simples............

The pics are of my up and the parcel shelf string is totally trouble free no issues with any locking of the shelf or uncliiping/ clipping. what length of string is the ideal then? This is a skoda part if I can Remember. I just drilled a hole and attached it. works perfectly that much so that after nearly a year of ownership I forgot it wasn't standard.
