I got the portable system with my Seat Mii and every so often this voice pops up saying beware! I have no idea what it's telling me to beware of tho. It happened twice in the winter then today when I was driving out of a 30mph in town. Any one have any ideas what it could be?

Does it to me too, makes me jump, especially if I don't have the radio on, and this disembodied voice comes from nowhere.

At first I thought it was alerting you to a mobile camera site, but someone on here mentioned you have to pay to have camera sites upgraded onto the M&M, and suggested it may do it when you exceed a speed limit by a certain value.

It is telling you you are exceeding the speed limit. Can be adjusted in settings.

It also happens when there are traffic jams ahead, or if you persistently ignore the route that the M + M has chosen.

It also says "Beware" if you have purchased the "Real Roadsign Pro" from Navigon, which I have. It informs you when you are approaching a bend or potential hazard.

If you're a "Pro" driver, shouldn't you be noticing bends and hazards?

I hear you! It does come in handy though. It tells you about school zones, roads narrowing, aswell as other dangers. I've seen a few signs knocked down over the years and hardly any have been replaced.

I did find it in the settings and I think I accelerated quite quickly and was just past the national speed limit sign so I think that triggered it haha

HiHappens with me too. You say it is when you are leaving a restricted zone - I suspect it is the delay in sat signal to car and it is because we are speeding up quicker past the de-restriction sign and "beat it!.

On a slightly different topic I find the speed limit settings on the M&M annoying. In the "built up areas" setting the option is none or 5mph. In a 30mph limit this would take you well over the limit in prosecutable terms whereas 5 mph over a 70mph limit is more realistic. maybe there should be a no leeway warning over 30 in a 30mph limit? The unit mph also tend to be higher on the car speedo than on the M&M.

Philip

Yeah I think you could be right there Philmet cos its happened before in the winter, I came off a dual carriageway and back onto a 60mph road and just as I came out from under the bridge is said beware even tho I was under 60.

I looked in the settings on my device it says 10km/h over in built up areas
even tho my settings for the navigation are set on mph. And then it says 20km/h over in non built up areas. I see your point about 5mph being to far over a 30, cos I've seen people get a penalty for doing 31!
I don't have the speedo gauge on my device, I have rpm & engine temp so I can't say I've noticed any difference in that.

My reaction exactly, when I found I couldn't set it any closer to 30 than 35. Possibly its MOST USEFUL setting/feature has been mis-engineered. Astounding!

You should not need to rely on an audible warning that you are exceeding a 30 mph speed limit. I would hardly describe it as a most useful feature. Sad that we need to be told that we are not driving in a responsible manner.

Well Groupie we will consider ourselves chastised!I always try to stick to the speed limit but sometimes on strange roads with an overkill (no pun) of sign-age it is easy to not be sure whether it is a 20,30 or even a 40 limit. So the warning safety feature is a help.

More to the point is VW and/or Garmin (Navigon) taking heed and prepared to have a no tolerance setting for warning at 20 or 30mph.

Well done you guys. I will be just behind you both with 45 years next month....but I must admit to 2 speeding fines in my 20's.
One in an Austin A30...can you believe that!..and the other in a firms Mk 1 Escort van.....Oh the joys of youth.

Go well.

The truth is Colin I can't say that I have never exceeded the speed limit. Just never been caught. It is more recognisable now that the speedometer is not 100% accurate. When in navigation mode on maps and more with actual speed displayed you can see how inaccurate the speedometer is.

That is right my friend . I remember when I was young regularly doing 130mph on the M4 and never getting caught in an Austin Healey 3000.A Police Jag XK6 following me once....and I thought who ever it is he is going faster than me....so in my ignorance I carried on.Did not get stopped! Now I am a lot older I am a lot slower and more aware! Happy days though!

Go well.

I find the "Beware!" useful. If you never trigger it, good for you; if you do need a reminder to keep your speed down then it has been a very useful feature.

I've not had a speeding ticket in over 25 years of driving but I'm not so smug as to think I can't and don't make mistakes.

If you read the thread properly you will realise that no one is being smug. At the moment it is good that we can enjoy freedom of expression but perceived personal comments might prevent participation.
