I'm gonna cheat a bit and kind of give an opinion from the inside. But I hope it might help with opinions in some way.
Firstly my dealership is most deffinatly not perfect, I know all the niggerly things, but it would be hard to find a retailer that is honestly perfect everything single day, every single hour, infront and behind the scenes.
The techs are an amazing bunch of blokes, they have helped me with my car no end, and if it wasn't for them putting so much sweat and time (and some serious amount of thinking when one odd noise appeared that we just couldn't work out) into my car, my car would be long gone (bareing in mind they do it for free in their breaks for me) They all love what they do and I actually can't fault them personally.
With regards to the service team and the sales, they are all very perfessional, the worst thing I hear of is sometimes over promising ie. if you were told it'll take an 1hr to do the job, actually the techs need more like 2.
Sales are all pretty friendly and want to help you out.
And from a dealers POV;
Some people you just can't make happy.
There is one kid on a forum who is local to me, he had a problem with his car, so I got the boyfriend to book it in and have the chaps check it out. Took a few hours but they fixed the problem. My boyfriend didnt charge as he did it for me as a friend sort of thing.
A few week later VW phone him to ask what the service was like that he received, and he moaned that it could have been cheaper - it was free!! He just thought if he complained he'd get something else.
You also get the ones that moan when the place is shut.
Ie. the lady who broke down Sunday afternoon and tried to phone service department for help, only to find they were shut. Sunday is the only day they get off, and they got moaned at for it!
Theres a lot of "ever since you serviced my car my radio won't work"
"ever since you changed my brakes my central locking has been playing up"
"ever since changed my wipers my cat got run over" and so on...
A chap even moaned his car no longer smelt of new car!!!
****! One lady complained when she got into the dealership to find her car wasn't booked in on the system for a service - turned out she had a Nissan and had turned up at completly the wrong garage. Haha
I've heard soo many stories the past few years which have at times made me so ashamed that I'm a fellow VW driver
They do have to deal with a lot of very long hours on what is actually very little pay.
Where ever and when ever you work in retail you are going to have to deal with some proper pull- your-hair-out kind of people-- I know I do every day for the retailer I work at at.
Those ones that make you question humanity! Ha!
But I do think it's important to have an inside pov sometimes

could change your views on your own dealer?!
I'm not at all trying to offend anyone I'm sure you're all top notch customers, and everyone has the right to complain when they recieve bad service. I know- Ive had some right dousies when I've gone to garages
"the hydraulics in your clutch is on the way out." "that's interesting as my clutch is a cable clutch"
But all the same, its good to have an idea of what your dealer has to deal with
