It's happened a couple of times now, I pop my wee Up in reverse and if I accelerate slightly quickly I get this awful smell of burning plasticy rubber smell!! First time my brother was in the car and he said it was just because it was so new! its now 2000 miles in and its still doing it!!

So ...... anyone else??

How far are you driving in reverse? And how long are you parked before you select reverse gear, as that may the fumes from the tail pipe being sucked back in by the air conditioning? I once had to reverse at high speed on Mull, and I could smell the clutch fumes after I'd finished!

Now I'm more curious as to why you had to reverse at high speed on Mull!!!

try doing it again, but move the recirculate lever to recirculate. then the air in the cabin will be re-used. If the smell is coming from inside the car then that will prove it one way or another.

I know that our Golf automatically switches to re-circulate when ever you select reverse. Going by that, it must show that is does cause a smell on any cars.

As the up is basic, it won't have this feature..
