Its a vw golf 5 1.4 turbo and supercharged. It runs okay but when in gear it only revs out until 3750 rpm same as in nutreal. The car drives until it hits 3750 rpm in every gear. The cruise control is not working as well. So i think the car thinks its stuck in neutral but it isnt. Someone know what the problem might be?

I never heard of a supercharged and turbocharged 1.4 golf before, but if is a custom modded engine, I'd be thinking there is a problem with the mods....

Does the engine or cat symbols on the dash come on, and go out as they should when the engine is started? It could be a limp mode thing, maybe cat or lambda sensor etc... Check for error codes with an OBD plug in tool and a phone....

It could possibly be a faulty microswitch - check switches relating to gear position. Some cars have a neutral position switch, and some have position switches for detecting each gear. Also check for brake light switch and/or clutch pedal switch. I am not sure what the precise arrangement is on Up's, but these are the things that spring to mind...

I think this the same twin charged 1.4 engine as in the Fabia VRS. It has a bit of reputation for drinking oil and being unreliable. Try and find a gearbox specialist would be my advice.

Sounds expensive :)

But the main question was about why the car seems unable to go beyond 3750rpm.

Apart from previous suggestions, I wonder if it may be about sensors or wiring relating to controlling when the engine is boosted by either the turbo or the supercharger? I reckon both won't be operating at the same time throughout the rev range, and given that the supercharger is more likely to be for lower engine rpm's, could it be that the turbo is faulty, or the dump valve is stuck, and so is not kicking in ?

We can only speculate, could be down to a huge number of things as the poster hasn't given much info. Best bet is to just take it to a garage.

Yes, best to let a garage speculate, and devise some tests, unless they can simply diagnose right away. It's kind of how problems get solved....

There's zero chance of figuring this out without connecting it to a decent scanner and if necessary some live data.
When I say decent, thats not a free one off Play Store!

Indeed. I would however try a cheap BT scanner first, just in case something shows... For a few quid, it's always worth owning one.
