Hi all,
Apologies for another thread re winter wheels/tyres!

We’re due to take delivery of my wife’s Up Gti at the end of November (very excited) & I’d like to get winters on it straight away, I’d like the official Merano wheels but buying the car has already depleted our reserves so I’ve been hunting around & seen these on mytyres, anyone have any thoughts on them?
I can get the wheel/tyre package for roughly the same price as just the Merano wheels without rubber.

Thank you both, I’ll drop mytyres an enquiry re the calliper clearance, I don’t want to go up to 16” as I like the extra sidewall of the 55 profile for winter.
The bolt pattern is 4 bolt pcd 100 in the spec.

Re the insurance, I was thinking about paying a bit more to go with a reputable company, rather than the usual, searching for the cheapest.
Many thanks

If you fancy a long read there’s this thread here Winter wheels for GTi

Ref Insurance : Run your details through the Compare the Market search thingy, obviously it’s different for everyone but I’ve been getting sub £200 quotes via them, some sub-£170. Also remember your car comes with 3 years breakdown cover so no need for that with insurance. For some reason entering £400 as a voluntary excess amount yields the best results.
Big thanks for the link & insurance info, having had a good read of that thread, I think I’m going with the Alcar 8950 steel option.👍🏻

Take a look at the MyTyres website - steel wheels for Golf MkII G60 - they can supply Alcars - Just looked they have gone up in price by a massive amount!
Thanks OhNoCoco, I’ve already purchased the wheels from Tunershop, £281 via their ebay shop. Just looking at the 185/55/15 tyre options now, I think I’ve narrowed it down to three, Bridgestone Blizzak lm005, Continental WinterContact ts860 or the new Uniroyal WinterExpert.

Hi again all,
We now have the car & I've fitted the 185/55/15 Conti wintercontact ts860’s. (Also painted the drums & applied waxoil)
Could anyone please advise on what tyre pressure is recommended, I’ve started with 30front 28rear but they look a touch under inflated, although they feel fine.

Standard tyre pressures for 2 persons in the car are 29psi front, 26psi rear. From my own research, tyre makers suggest adding 0.2 bar (2.9 psi) to a winter tyre in winter. So 32 front, 29 rear are the recommended pressures.
Big thanks SeventeenUP, greatly appreciated.
I’ll try those pressures out & see how it feels.
Many thanks
Jason
