The other alternative for bluetooth/nav is to use a bluetooth RF transmitter plugged into the 12v socket tuned into the radio (usually on 87.5FM). That way she can use her phone as the sat nav, and have handsfree calling etc. They cost about £10-£15 from Amazon/eBay.

Bear in mind that the VW/Garmin sat nav units are now out of support and the maps won't be as up to date as Google Maps/Apple Maps is. Having said that, it's nice to have the screen for car info and driving dynamics, just don't rely on the sat nav bit.

Many thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware that the info systems are out of support. With regard to the car info, she wouldn't have an interest in anyway!

The bluetooth RF transmitter suggestion sounds like a super solution, such that it will facilitate handsfree phone usage through the car system (?)
Is this what you have done? Is there a particular unit you would recommend.

I don't have it in my Up but use one in my ancient Volvo 940. Just a cheap oddly named Chinese thing from Amazon. They all use the same internals and it works well for me. I'm in quite a rural area though - obviously you need to have a nice clear frequency for it to work. 87.5FM works, but if you're in traffic with other people using that frequency you'll get some interference. You won't get advanced features like caller display on the car stereo, it's merely using the car audio as a speaker system, which I find fine for sat nav. If I'm driving I tend not to answer mobile calls because I think it's too much of a distraction so I really only use it for sat nav and music streaming.
