Hi folks, it’s been a great couple of years with my 5 door UP GTI but I’m starting to get itchy feet and would like to offer it for sale on here. Details below:

Supplied new by @hayseldenvolkswagen Doncaster with me having ordered the car from the factory. A one owner car with just under 20k miles and a full service history courtesy of @mbjarvie in Glasgow who know their stuff when it comes to VWs. Used as a second car and by a non-smoking household.

I have changed the standard tyres for Continental Sport Contact with the fronts (Contact 6s)having covered less than 1k miles. I also swapped the standard air filter for a K&N version.

Optional extras include: Pure White paint, Beats audio system, climate control and a black roof. I had the front windows very lightly tinted and have also fitted Team Heko wind deflectors. The boot interior has had a protective cover fitted from day one.

It's a very cheap car to run (40+mpg easily achieved) and maintain.

Regularly valeted to keep it looking great. No outstanding finance.

More pics and videos available on my Instagram page: @mr_Glasgow84 and happy to email etc.

Thanks,

Martin

Its a very reasonable price for an up GTI considering the extras as well. Main dealers service history is so overrated. They charge double the price as independent garages and do exactly the same thing.

I'm not one for getting into pointless arguments on-line so I'll keep this fairly brief.

I have used specialists for my Boxster, M135i, Clio 197, Corsa VXR, Golf R and V60, all bought from new and have never once had an issue with warranty claims or with subsequent trade ins or private sales. This is because I choose specialists I know will offer a level of expertise, passion and customer service that IMO often exceeds that offered by main dealers. The often cheaper cost is a bonus but not my primary motivation.

My current Type R will be serviced at a main dealer because I know the team there well and they know their stuff when it comes to the Type R models.

If a prospective buyer would prefer the likes of Arnold Clark to have serviced the car then of course that is their preference.

My GTI's service history is all on the VW database courtesy of the above specialist, with the owner being an enthusiast himself and former Golf R owner, amongst other things. Any warranty issues have been covered without issue. Again, to reiterate, it certainly wasn't an issue for a Mercedes Benz dealer and BMW dealer whom I visited at the weekend to discuss options.

Thanks,

Martin

And possibly messing with next owners warranty.
As long as the garage is VAT registered and uses genuine parts then a manufacturer can't refuse a warranty claim on the grounds of a non dealer doing the work.

As for saying he can't afford to service it properly... It's actually pretty much the opposite, it's a well known fact that many (although not all) main dealers are more careless/clueless than a specialist independent. Why pay more and get less?

I'd personally much rather buy a car that has had thought into where it's been serviced rather than just taken back to the dealer which sold it.

Fair enough if you only ever buy used cars with main dealer service histories but I can guarantee you're missing out on many a great car by doing so.

Got full service history.......
Halfords
Is that supposed to be funny ?
Marty84 has obviously give lot of thought, and has a lot of experience in placing his business with Independent(s) who know their stuff, and have given him good service regularly.
Gone are the days when you played Russian Roulette in finding a decent garage that wasn't a main dealer.
I'm lucky in that I have a VW Main Dealer who has performed well, at extremely competitive prices, over a ten-year period, but lots of areas in the country don't enjoy that luxury.
If I didn't have them, I'd definitely be finding a good independent.
When I traded my TSi in 15 months ago, a (different) VW Dealer only asked if the service history was with either a main dealer, or a VW-focused Independent
Perhaps you should get up-to-date instead of making ill-judged comments.

I'm at a loss to fathom the negativity. Is everyone on this forum an Up/Mii/Citigo owner or are some just trolls driving some old rust-bucket?

In the end, the value of anything is what people are prepared to pay for it.

I'm sure we'll be happy if the OP has an easy sale, and we'll be interested to see what the deal was if that's not too private, and it's useful for other sellers and buyers.

Of all the Gti I've seen for sale alot of them have main dealer history and are priced as such, I think I made a fair point by questioning the price and quality of independent servicing.

You did make a fair point, but then when Marty84 gave his very reasoned explanation, you decided to turn on the sarcasm. Not everyone agrees with you. Hundreds of Independents around the country do a great job, many far better than the VW Dealers, and smart buyers have woken up to that, a long time ago.

I would tend to question the price and quality of main dealer servicing, based on very, very many years of the annual pain involved taking my car to a main dealer just to keep the warranty active. I could write a book about my experiences, almost all negative. Half the chapters would be dedicated to Arnold Clark, and several each to Peter Vardy and Evans Halshaw.
If I could find a well reviewed independent anywhere near me, I would use them every time over a main dealer.

I mean, if you want to ignore practically everything I said about specialist independents and continue spewing nonsense then fine... You're only really losing out yourself by limiting your own prospective pool of cars come buying time.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't know how many of the people posting here have actually worked for a main agent (as a service manager originally), I have. If you want a service history go to a main agent, if you want it FIXED go to a specialist. OK, that is a generalisation, but based on 40 yrs in the trade. Case in point, at my last place we actually sent a customers car to a specialist to sort it (I wasn't working in service dept then BTW). Its all about basis service through put, no money in fixing things. Spanners stay working for main dealers, top techs leave, go private or work for top specialist

My car is still in warranty, its going back for the THIRD time to fix a gearbox fault under warranty, same problem every time. First time a service only tech saw it, no fault found, kicked it. 2nd time a level 2 tech saw it, fixed half of it. 3rd time I have requested a level 4 tech to fix it, he will have more than five years on the product, passed all his exams, done all the training.

Only cars that must have a service history for resale are late model/ high end. Ferrari / Lamborghini for example
VW UP!, not so much, maybe £300-500 on resale up to 2 yrs. Five yrs and over, no difference. Spec and condition are the factors
My warranty expires April, and I'm off. Luckily I'm in London, lots of VW specialists who want your business

I think everyone should be grateful it's been serviced at all. Jesus Christ. I'm likely the youngest on this thread and am watching people get irate over a car that doesn't even belong to them.

You aren't being told to buy the car. Stop complaining about its price. If the price is too high the seller will have a hard time selling. Tough on the seller. Not you. Be glad.
