There are three connection (the third is hidden under the protective foam tube). Two antenna connectors and one multi connector:

The Navigon M&M is actually connected to the vehicle's antenna..?! I thought it was like all other aftermarket satnavs and used a built-in antenna for satellite reception. So now I'm wondering how the thing is working when used in pedestrian mode..???

 

It uses the radio signal for the traffic updates

 

I've driven 80 km this evening, and everything works like a charm. Definitely a great feature for the up!

Only problem is that the airbag lamp has turned on. Will get the error cleared tomorrow

I expect that during testing, you must have switched on the ignition with the Airbag Off light disconnected... have done that in my EOS when fitting phone system! Easy one to clear with diagnostic tool!

Maybe there is a market (albeit small) for a template to help with the cutting ?






However it does annoy me that the VW product managers decided to save a few pence by not supplying the hole, cover, wire and metal bracket, after all the cheaper brands did !!



That way they could have marketed it as an accessory and supplied the M&M and stand (or even included it on special offers like the cheaper brands !!)

That is good that they come with the hole in Denmark now, has anyone seen that on any of the recent UK cars without M&M ?
Note that each Country and Brand is responsible for it's own specification !!

 

Well done for fitting, and an excellent guide.

 

The two UP's at the dealer I saw both don't have the hole... I agree that it's a bit daft, they should cut the hole, but put a blanking plate on it like the bit above the radio which has the gaps for extra buttons, but are blanked offas applicable in lower specs...

 

The Danish Seat Mii's and Skoda Citigo's all come pre-cut with cover plate from factory, as it should have been on all Up's!

I already have all the parts, assembly will be Volkswagen dealer where I bought the car At least not lose the warranty and it is not that expensive.

That's only if they know... If you do a good job, they probably won't check/notice.

I retro fitted a VW MFD 2 DVD Sat Nav to a Golf Plus once and they upgraded the software on it at a service!

Yes because otherwise you can probably replace it if the manufacturer has not provided the cutting of holes in the dashboard. Otherwise, it is also the fact that if something happens to go down a dash or a peel color will certainly appreciate your intervention.
