I think just to echo what others have said here, 205/40/17 is the most sensible option, many others have done it and all reported great results - although I do think that there's something to be said about not opting for PS4/PS5's on these cars. I'd love to be able to test them against something a bit more upper mid range - I'm thinking RainSports or similar.

Like many of you I watched the latest Volkswizard video. That car was on 16's (eibach pro st s, like mine) and I did notice a bit of a bump in the ride at one point in the video, I think due to a change in the level of the road.
I think with the limited suspension travel, lightness and SWB there's only so far we can go with comfort on UK roads....even on 16's. On the flip side, it's fantastic in the twistes. Very neutral and lots of fun.
I'm still mulling over what yo do, but from all the views it's clear it will only improve😀
I'm running more or less the identical setup to him in terms of springs and tyre size etc and whilst it is a huge, huge, HUGE improvement over the stock setup, there are still bangs and crashes here and there which even in my previous Golf were apparent. So I think there's only so much you can do to improve the ride comfort in these cars especially with them being such a short wheel base.

I do want to move to a 17x7 setup for the summer months so I'm really curious to know what the ride will be like on that.

Are you not on GTi specific Eibach's? I am on standard wheels with wider tyres and the ride itself is excellent I think you get the odd noise from the rear....

I have thought about some silent coat on the inside of boot on the wheel wells as if you tap on it towards the back of the car it echoes like mad I wonder if it just acts like an amplifier but the actual ride for coilovers and the height it's running I can't complain about!

I would like to try some lifter 7x17 inch wheels just to know if it has any affect or not?
Sorry yes I am on specific GTI Eibach's. I do get some noises from the rear but I think that's mainly down to the lack of sound proofing. I do wonder if it's the jack etc in the boot moving around within the foam holder. I did think about picking up an actual spare tyre tbh.

I would suspect that if it was a lighter weight tyre then definitely it could help.

Having slept on it I've decided to go for the oz 17" wheels....as long as the delivery doesn't get too silly.
As the wheels are wider (7"), now the question will be....
205x40x17 ...82mm sidewall or
215x40x17 ...86mm sidewall
🤣🤣🤣 I think I'll have lots of time to sleep on it!
I believe the 205’s will look very slightly stretched on 17x7 will they not? The 215 will be a bit more square but not sure on the impact it’d have on the speedo?

Hi Frostliess, I'm enjoying your mod journey.

The pictures I've seen with those wheels are with the 205's. They look fine, similar to 195's on the Oswalds. With the 215 you'd get extra rim protection, but there's a limited tyre choice...the speedo should still under read very slightly.

Just a long wait now!
Thank you, I appreciate it!

Looking forward to seeing the wheels when they arrive!

Like I said somewhere earlier, I think there's probably a lot to be said for a slightly cheaper tyre for these cars but that's just my 2p
