Evening.

I've just registered and I am on the hunt for comments on what people thought on the two engines. I recently had a test drive in a used Move Up and High Up and the High Up felt a bit perkier but was a a bit louder. I want to buy one wanted to read a bit more before I take the plunge.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section and I promise I have used the search function, although with limited success.

Cheers

The difference is down to slight difference in programming of the ECU

The 75 version is more comfortable on motorways

Otherwise the engines are identical

That's down to personal preference really!
Of course the High UP will be more luxurious inside and depending on the price difference, probably the better buy. But it depends what you want from the car, you may not want to pay extra for the added features or gadgets that the High model will have.

Either way, they will both have perky and responsive engines, my 60PS Take UP is fairly nippy, it only really struggles picking up speeds on hills if you try to change up to a higher gear of course.

Is there any difference in the condition of each car? It may help if you let us know what sort of price difference there is between the two?

Obviously I am biased as I love my UP, but you can't go wrong with either of those to be honest!

Cheers guys.

The Move Up was a 63 plate with 15k@ÂŁ5.8 and the High Up was a 63 plate with 21k@ÂŁ6.4. I like the leather steering wheel, alloys and the other extras in the High Up.

I drove the Move first and it felt great and then the High felt like it was more responsive when accelerating. I am not a speedy driver, not that I have an option in my 14 year old diesel Fiesta, but I want to feel I can nip in and out of traffic when I need to.

In a perfect world I would have each car for a day so I could feel more comfortable making the decision between the two.

As a German, I have a 60 BHP high up! ...
(not available in the UK)

I dirve motorways very seldomly ...
But I drove German motorways even with 100 and 110 mph (speedo) with my 60 BHP up!.

To me, in the UK the 60/75 question is more a question of outfit/equipment/look ...
If you don't want to beak UK speed limits too severe, it doesn't matter if you have a 60 or 75 BHP up! ...

BHP is one thing, but Nm is the other thing! With "normal" rpms, both have the same Nm!!!
This means that you only have more power with more/high rpms ...

In Germany we have 90° or even 270° turns to get on a motorway (the UK way with straight lanes is much better!). In the 90° or 270° turnswe drive 30 mph and then accelerate to 50-60 mph to get onto the German motorway. No problem at all with a 60 BHP up! ...
Then, you accelerate more sowly to 60 or 80 mph. Also no problem!

I would buy a high up! again because of the "possibilities" (colour and accessory choice) ...
If I had lived in the UK, I would have bought a 75 BHP up! to get my black up! with red dash, Red Salsa seats, chrome set +++.

Sorry; but in the UK with it's speed limits, 60/75/90 BHP are only a matter of taste!
Even the 90 BHP will bring less 15 minutes saving of time during a whole up!'s live ...
In Germany it may be 60 minutes ...

Cadfael's last point is a sensible one. I just brought home my up with the 60hp engine and I'm so glad I didn't spend the huge amount extra on getting a new one with the 90hp TSI which I was originally considering. Over the 70 mile journey I had to gun it only once and that was due to me making a precarious move I probably shouldn't have - the 60hp is more than enough for its purpose but the gears are so wide you do have to wind it up a bit!

Also as Cadfael has touched on the 75 only has the extra power at higher RPM, the torque is the same at 70lb ft and according to the spec on the VW configurator that comes at 3,000RPM for both engines. I found torque to be non existent at below 1500 RPM (and characteristic three cylinder shudder very noticeable) and then after that the power surges in. Quite fun. Edited by: callyy_f

The Nm is the same, but the final drive of the gear box is a little bit different between the two models. At the same speed, the 75 has a bit better acceleration and a bit higher rpm than the 60.

I've got a 75PS on order at the moment. My thinking of ordering the 75PS over the 60PS was that I've never known anyone buy a car and then say to themselves "I wish it had less power".

But I guess it's all going to be down to how you drive and what type of roads. My route to work involves a lot of dual carrigeways and motorway so being able to get up to speed will be worth having the extra power for. If you're just doing town driving then I'd imagine you wouldn't benefit from the 75PS over the 60PS.

There's also a hike in insurance costs between the 75 and the 90PS. We have insured our two children (23 and 20) on our Up! and it was quite affordable.
I agree. Just bought a 65 plate 60bhp UP! with 20+ years cleandriving as a named driver on a motability car in my wifes name. Not recognised by insurance companies for NCB purposes despite clean driving record. However insurance cost for my UP! is ÂŁ240 yearly so a reasonable start with a promised 9 years NCB after this first year. Try AXA if anyone is having similar troubles
