Been meaning to upload these since I got the car new (Group 1 VW Chelmsford) in September 2023 for my wife. 18 months on we’re really enjoying the car. No problems yet (6,000 miles) apart from the candles & embarrassingly pathetic single tone horn.

Very nice! (y)
Kindred spirits with my GTI, bit younger than mine though.

Nice touch having it inside the dealership on pick up day isn't it... makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Agree with the headlight thing, upgraded mine recently (can't remember what I put in), they are brighter than standard but don't really improve visibility.
Did watch a YouTube on this a while back an the chap said to speak nicely to your next MOT tester to make sure the lights are at the 'upper limit' of adjustment, something to consider.

Wishing you an your lady many more happy miles.

Nice car. You cant beat the new car smell and the first drive home.

As for the horn it is all about cost cutting. Years ago i fitted all types of horns on my cars. Musical air horns, One note loud air horns and a klaxon horn, however these days i can not remember the last time i used the horn on my car so it would be pointless to fit any extra horns.

Upgrade to improve brightness is a must I think.

Think there's some mileage (sorry) in the adjustment from factory though, distance of vision is pretty dire in mine... the hedgerow passing my front wheels is crystal clear though! 🤭

Can anyone help me understand these so-called brighter halogen bulbs. The small print says they are up to 200% brighter than the legal minimum. Osram's equivalent claims to be 220% brighter than the legal minimum, which it clarifies to be the minimum set out in ECE headlamp specification R112.

However, when I compare the spec sheets for these bulbs with the spec sheets for standard H4 bulbs, there is no difference in power or brightness, they all have the same spec:

Nominal voltage: 12V
Nominal power: 60/55W

Test voltage: 13.2V
Power input: 75/68W

Nominal luminous flux: 1650/1000 lm

So what's going on here? Are people being tricked into believing these bulbs are brighter than standard bulbs, due to their different colour temperature? And what exactly is the legal minimum brightness they are claiming to compare with? Would this be based on the older R2 (non-halogen) 45/40W headlamp bulbs that were the default for most European cars in the 1970s and 1980s, I wonder?

No idea on the technicalities of it all if I'm honest.

No sure if it's manufacturers trickery as such, may be that to the untrained eye the cooler colour temp. appears brighter?
Since changing mine, they seem 'brighter' or at the very least give a clearer picture which is fine by me.

I think for like things, manufacturers claims should be taken with a pinch of salt... lots of outside variables at work compared to 'lab testing' conditions.

End of the day, I'm vein and changed mine more for aesthetic reasons than anything else.
The improved image hitting my retina (even if only apparent / perceived) was just a bonus! 😊

Can't say I get the chemistry or physics of how bulbs can make more or less light with the same power usage (maybe the alloys in the filaments), but don't forget their definition of say, "200% brighter" is probably legally allowed but is not necessarily meaningful. Light output may well increase with these bulbs, in certain parts of the visible spectrum, but I think it's logarithmic, like sound. And "twice as bright" say, doesn't mean the eye actually sees it as twice a bright - with sound, a 3dB increase is twice the power, but is only slightly louder. To get twice as loud, you'd need 10x the power. Not sure I'm making the point well, but I think "brightness" as described by the makers is not what humans actually see. I have x150% bulbs and they are only a tad brighter. But then I do have 4x H7 bulbs in my humble Skoda - I can't believe these were not standard in GTI's !.....

I'm possibly one of maybe 3 people on this site that could use extra bright H7's as spares....

PM me and let's make an arrangement. Tomorrow, as I'm a-bed now. Being old etc....

If the filaments were shortened or repositioned, this would affect beam coverage. I can't see that's what's happening....

yup.
they're fine, although not yet fitted; my Osram/Philips (?) super-high-brightness bulbs have been in for 4 years, so will soon be EOL, based on past experience, so I need some spares.
