How do I open the fuel filler cap?

I've tried turning the key in every direction and screwing it every way I can think off but I can't get it open.

Any suggestions before I get the hammer/run out of petrol?

Really, no manual?

But anyway you put the key in the slot, hold the cap and turn it 180 degrees. if it's unlocked it then it should unscrew, it takes a bit of force to turn. When you put it back on make sure it clicks and then lock with the key.
Turns out it's about 5% past "this is going to break it" levels of force. It'll probably loosen over time.

I've got it sorted, cheers for all the replies.

Yeah, think I'll do the same!

Can't remember the last car I had that had a key operated fuel filler cap.

You've got to separate unlocking and twisting it off into 2 movements !

Unlock with the key (turn left)
Turn cap left -by hand- to release it

Screw cap back on by hand after filling.
Lock cap with key.

Trying to do both at the same time with the key, gives that "This is gonna break it"-feeling, and ultimately it may ...

First time I filled mine up and went through all the hassle everyone is mentioning I just left it unlocked from then on.

My gripe is what do you do with the filler cap when your filling it up? am I missing something as cant see anywhere it should attach to etc so it just either bounces along the side of the car or sits in beside the opening getting in the way of the nozzle.
