Can't answer about the pop out windows as that's not an option on the 3 door.

I always take my M&M device with me when parking in public places. The only time I leave it in situ is when I park in the works carpark. I do leave the mount in place though.

Regarding the pop out windows, it wouldn't take much to rip them off when open. My old mini was broken into via the pop outs when they were shut, probably using a screwdriver. I never l ave the Garmin in the car, but do leave the mount. One guy on here had his driver window smashed and the unit stolen earlier this year.

Garmin device - I usually take it off the mount and pop it in the carry case in the glove box.

 

I have a Skoda Citigo (almost the same, of course) and remove the PID when parked...but leave the mounting in place- I believe constant removal and refitting of the mounting can cause connection problems.
Serious question re your dogs. Are they all waggy tails and friendly...or snappy and vicious? It would make a difference in deciding to leave the rear windows open when parked and unattended!

I think its safe to safe to say from your replies that its wise to take the garmin away with me, as a female you would think I'd always have a handbag to put it in, but I dont, so Its going to be a pain to have to carry it around with me (wonder what you guys do?)
I've had 3 friends who have had their car windows smashed to steal sat navs in glove box simply because the mount was in the car and police said thieves often take the chance that owners don't like taking away their sat navs, especially guys as they don't like carrying stuff around with them, especially if working,
Lol Oxon, they are waggy tails and friendly and would welcome any intruder to lick to death, haha

One thing you can do is take the mount off with the satnav, just press the button on the mount and it, and the satnav, both come away, Then the thief won't know you've got one.

 

As a footnote to this discussion, my black Labrador enjoys riding shotgun in the front passenger footwell.

 

The rear windows worked well for our dog on bank hol Mon journey from Leeds to Burnsall,about an hour or so.It was sunny and warm but She was even sleeping on the journey home,very impressed.

Don't leave the rear window(s) opened as they are so bloody weak a simple pull and they will be in your car.Personally I'd recommend either a Suzuki Celerio or a Fiat Panda over an Up! The Up I have doesn't like heavy traffic (same as my previous Seat Mii, which was a better car), the Suzuki Celerio is more fuel efficient. My friend and I went down to Dorset to buy a gun in the Celerio, really impressed me.

I don't really get much heavy traffic where I live but always found the UP! very capable in all types of traffic. In what way does your UP! not like heavy traffic? how does it express its disapproval?

 

It eats fuel in heavy traffic. I have never got mine over 52 mpg, even on a long run. The Celerio (salad ingredient?) gave us 65.8 on the Dorset run down and 66.2 back home without trying. I do not rely on those idiotic computers that lie about mpg/range remaining i work it out manually.Don't get me wrong it is a good car the Up! and its sisters but there are better.

Up Where and What's up, I cant really comment on fuel consumption yet as I havent had it long enough, but I had looked at a lot of different Dealers in the small car range but in this area Automatic gearboxes are quite hard to come by and especially in the small car range and my VW dealer just happened to have one and offered me the best trade in on my Golf SV mainly because I'd been a long standing customer of theirs.

Now the ASG gearbox, well that's something I need to leave for a another very long discussion (although I can see its been widely covered in older threads) suffice to say, moving from the DSG to the ASG auto has been a huge lesson in compromise for me.

 

Oh, and regarding the sat-nav, I'll be taking your advice regarding taking it away with me, but I cant fit the mount in my bag also, so my son came up with using these stickers

He's a HGV mechanic and sees a lot of business vans with these or "No tools left in van overnight" stickers, so Ive ordered some to try, they are very cheap and hopefully will deter thieves breaking in on the off chance that the sat-nav is in the glove box, as even if I removed the mount there are still the connectors there to show that something or other has been there and opportunistic thieves seem to be getting more and more brazen, I heard of someone who had had their side window broken and the sat-nav stolen from the glove box just because they saw the "ring" left on the windscreen where it had been stuck!
