I have just purchased a High Up 2012 for my daughter and have spent the best part of this morning trying to get the sat nav to talk when mouted. If taken off the cradle it works OK but when mounted I get nothing. What am I missing? I have downloaded the Garmin user manual but it just assumes that he works through the radio. Help ..............

Hi and welcome to the club !!

The volume for announcements might be set at zero. You can only adjust the volume of sat nav announcements while they are playing (using the vol control on the radio). You can force an announcement to play by pressing the next direction icon (bottom left of the M&M screen) when a route is in progress.

It's not very intuitive!!

There is a separate volume adjustment in the M&M options for when you use it out of the cradle (for controlling volume of the internal speaker)

Thanks for that. I have all of that worked out but the issue is when it is mounted it just wont talk. I can force it to speak by pressing the bottom left and it speaks in my hand but if I press whilst mounted it just stays quiet. All maps etc are there and the radio works but nothing is coming through. Has anybody else had this problem?

Many thanks and much appreciate your time in replying.

Thanks.

So you put it in the cradle, push the bottom left and then you adjust the radio volume, right? You might just check that the cradle is properly installed to dash and the M&M to the cradle and check that contacts are clean. If no sound still, use factory reset. Download Garmin fresh software, connect your M&M to your computer and use Fresh to do a factory reset.

Check that the stalk is clicked in to the dash fully... If it isn't, the speaker contacts may not be connected...

In my first up, I had no media sound on the left... I clicked it in properly and it worked fine ever since...

Leave the unit connected through a long trip that the battery gets full load. Alternatively you can leave the unit charge in usb loader which has enough power to load the unit.
And please check again that the connection between cradle and dash is fully engaged and contacts are clean, it sounds that it's not.
You can allways check and download the maps using Fresh.

The unit is fully charged as I have used the mains and the contacts are clean. I have just tried to redownload the map using Fresh but when I go to my system it shows version 7.16.8 3710 mb - when I click on the UK map nothing happens. Is the map still there, I cant find it. When I disconnect the garmin then stays black with white writing in various languages saying connect to car and switch on ignitition which I have done but nothing happens on the screen.

Sleepness night, really need to sort this before giving to daughter who then has to go on long journey. I would happily buy the maps again at this stage but worried it wont fix the original problem. A bit of a gamble when ÂŁ80

Somewhere in Fresh you can see the free/used memory so you can estimate have you got the maps, if it shows nearly empty you don't. Even though you didn't have any maps, it should go and ask you the presets in the beginning.I am sorry that I don't have anymore the unit and software, so cannot help you there.
